Details
What is the Singapore AI Safety Fellowship?
A full-time, in-person research program that pairs mentors who are AI Safety experts with promising talent to conduct AI safety research projects.
Fellows work alongside senior researchers over three intensive months, building deep technical expertise and contributing meaningfully to the global AI safety landscape, with a unique focus on bridging Eastern and Western research communities.
Three Pillars
01
East + West cohort
A mixed cohort of researchers from the East and West, designed to foster cross-regional collaboration.
02
Mentorship and upskilling
Senior researchers will guide fellows through focused AI safety research projects, building durable technical and analytical capacity in the region.
03
Government and institutional partnerships
Research questions are co-designed with government agencies and domain-specific institutions from the outset. Findings are presented directly to partners at the end of each cohort, strengthening the research-to-policy loop.
What fellows receive
Support for fellows while they build technical depth, execute research, and connect with the wider AI safety community.
Mentorship from experienced researchers

Research management
Research managers help fellows stay on track, remove blockers, and plan the next stage of their careers.
Weekly events
Talks, workshops, and social events with mentors, peers, and people working across AI safety.
Financial support
$5k SGD stipend for living expenses, with housing provided throughout the fellowship.

FAQ
Can I bring my own project?
You need to apply to at least one mentor. That said, there's often room to shape the project together with the guidance of your mentor.
What does the application involve?
A written application (~1 hour), then for shortlisted candidates: a short video interview, a mentor-specific work task, and a personal interview.
Can I participate remotely?
It's an in-person program in Singapore.
Can I participate part-time?
The fellowship is full-time. Small side commitments are usually fine and you can mention them in your application.
What outputs are expected?
Usually a research paper, but we're open to blog posts, policy briefs, or other formats if they suit the project. In any case, you retain ownership over your research.
Can fellows work in teams?
Some mentors have fellows work in teams, others work one-on-one. Either way, collaboration between fellows is common and encouraged.
What about housing and travel?
We cover travel to and from Singapore. If you don't already live here, you'll get accommodation covered, on top of your stipend.
Do I need a visa?
We will arrange for visas for accepted fellows to the program.
